About The Book
The Languages of the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria like the earlier two, The Languages of the South-South Zone of Nigeria: A Geo- poilitical Profile (2003) and The Languages of the South-East Zone of Nigeria: A Geopolitical Profile (2004), this book, The Languages of the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria, is a linguistic survey of the nine states that make up the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. These are: Abia, Akwa lbom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, lmo, Ondo and Rivers. The book showcases the region's richness in diverse natural resources and the problem of environmental degradation caused by oil exploration. As part of a larger project covering the entire languages of Nigeria, the book highlights the vast linguistic resources of this region and the fact that many of these are threatened by the overwhelming use of both foreign and indigenous languages.
